Bolt Barbers Presents Robbie Schoen’s Mixed Media Instrument Series

Bolt Barbers is proud to present Robbie Schoen’s Mixed Media Instrument Series. Schoen was born on the banks of the Willamette River in Portland , Oregon. His parents told him he was an artist when he was 5 years old. At the age of 13, Schoen’s stepfather told him his hands were insured for a million dollars. While his maternal grandfather lay dying, Schoen created a 5 week chronology of photographs from deathbed to casket. This earned him a reputation of liking things that were sick, dying or dead. Soon everyone was bringing him objects they would have otherwise thrown away : polio braces, melted computers, anything broken. Over the years these pieces have been combined into different sculptural forms. Schoen’s “Mixed Media Instrument Series” consists of sculptural forms that are working ELECTRIC guitars.
